Is Your Aviva Health Insurance Still the Best Deal? A 5-Minute Check

Key takeaways

  • Loyalty isn’t rewarded in PMI — long-standing policies are often the least competitive.
  • Check your outpatient limit, hospital list and excess against what you actually use.
  • A free whole-of-market review tells you in minutes whether to stay or switch.

If you’ve held Aviva private medical insurance for a few years, there’s a fair chance you’ve never actually checked whether it’s still competitive. That’s completely normal — and it’s also where money quietly leaks. Here’s a five-minute check.

1. When did you last review it?

If the answer is “when I took it out,” that’s the biggest red flag of all. Premiums drift upward every year, and new plans and insurers enter the market. A policy that was excellent value three years ago may not be today.

2. Does your cover still match your life?

  • Has your family changed — a new partner or children to add?
  • Do you still need every hospital on your list, or are you paying for London hospitals you’ll never use?
  • Is your outpatient limit generous enough, or higher than you need?

3. What’s your excess — and does it fit?

If you rarely claim, a higher excess could cut your premium. If you claim often, a lower excess might serve you better. Either way, the excess set years ago may no longer be the right one.

4. How does it compare to the rest of the market?

This is the one step you can’t do alone with any confidence — and it’s the one that matters most. Aviva may still be your best option; it may not be. The only way to know is a like-for-like comparison against Bupa, AXA Health and the wider market.

You wouldn’t auto-renew your energy or car insurance without checking. Your health cover deserves the same five minutes.

We’ll benchmark your Aviva policy against 20+ insurers and tell you honestly whether to stay or switch. Free, impartial, no obligation.
